Designer Anand Kabra Brings Taramati II Collection to Collage in Chennai
TL;DR
- Designer Anand Kabra is showcasing his new collection, Taramati II, at Collage in Chennai.
- The collection is inspired by the legendary singer and dancer Taramati from the Qutb Shahi era.
- It features traditional Hyderabadi silhouettes and Dakhani embroidery redesigned for modern lifestyles.
Designer Anand Kabra is returning to Collage in Chennai with his latest line, Taramati II, which revisits the story of the legendary singer and dancer linked to the Qutb Shahi period. Kabra previously explored this historical connection in a 2013 collection, but the new lineup examines the emotional world and longing of the figure behind the legend.
The garments incorporate traditional Hyderabadi silhouettes such as the gharara, peshwa, farshi pajama, and khada dupatta, alongside Dakhani embroidery. The design also integrates elements of men's ceremonial attire, including the historical jama, straight kurtas, and jacket structures, adapted specifically for womenswear.
Drawing inspiration from the arches and windows of the historic Taramati Baradari pavilion, the color palette includes shades of vermilion, pearls, fresh henna, turmeric, brown, and kohl. According to the designer, the historical garments were rethought to suit modern women who require practical, easy-to-wear, and flattering attire that accommodates busy lifestyles without needing assistance to dress.
In addition to completely new pieces, the collection retains select archival items from the original 2013 line that remain relevant. The showcase also highlights a long-standing 15-year relationship between the designer and Collage founder Lata Madhu.
