IIM Calcutta Alumna Shares Life Changes After Moving to Google from McKinsey
TL;DR
- Jahnvi Singh discussed her career transition in an Instagram video.
- She shifted from handling multiple clients at McKinsey to focusing on a single business at Google.
- Her domestic travel decreased while international business trips increased.
- The new routine provided more time for fitness, walking, and socializing.
An IIM Calcutta graduate has shared how her daily routine and work-life balance shifted after leaving McKinsey to join Google. After completing a year in her new position, Jahnvi Singh posted a video detailing the differences between the two companies.
While her previous consulting role involved handling diverse clients and frequent domestic travel across several Indian cities, her current position at the Gurugram office focuses on a single business. Although this brings deep industry knowledge, she noted it can sometimes feel repetitive compared to consulting work.
Her travel pattern also changed from constant domestic movement to occasional international business trips a few times a year. In place of the five-star hotel stays and parties common in her past consulting role, she now utilizes everyday office benefits like transportation services and food options at Google.
Singh highlighted that the most noticeable personal impact has been the time recovered for activities outside of work. She now maintains a regular workout schedule, walks 8,000 steps daily, and easily meets friends on weekdays.
