IndiaAI Mission Launches Three Indigenous AI Models for Mobile and Critical Use
TL;DR
- MeitY launched three domestic AI models under the IndiaAI Mission's Foundation Model initiative.
- ZenteiQ's Dhīr 2B and Dhīr 5B offer offline mobile access for users with limited internet connectivity.
- Socket AI's EKA-1 is designed for critical sectors like defense, banking, and cybersecurity.
- The models aim to reduce reliance on foreign AI technology and enhance strategic autonomy.
Three domestic artificial intelligence models have been launched under the Centre's IndiaAI Mission by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Created by Bengaluru-based companies Socket AI and ZenteiQ, the models are designed to address specific national requirements and decrease reliance on external technology.
ZenteiQ introduced the Dhīr 2B and Dhīr 5B compact models, which function directly on mobile devices without needing an internet connection. Company representatives noted that this technology will aid users in regions with restricted internet access, with model weights already available through AIKosh and a free application slated for Android and iOS.
Socket AI developed the EKA-1 model, a 26-billion-parameter system trained to handle reasoning, coding, and mathematical tasks. According to leadership at Socket AI, the system can operate on private servers and cloud networks without internet access to support sensitive fields like defense, finance, and cybersecurity.
Officials noted that these domestic models enhance strategic autonomy and provide secure enterprise applications for environments completely isolated from external networks. This rollout forms part of a wider initiative to expand national digital infrastructure and secure control over data.
Why It Matters
This development marks a significant step in India's efforts to build domestic technological capabilities, reduce reliance on foreign systems, and ensure data security across critical sectors such as banking and defense.
