Tribe Amrapali crafts 4,500 distinct pieces for Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana
TL;DR
- Tribe Amrapali produced 4,500 jewelry pieces for the first part of Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana film.
- The design team spent nearly two years drawing on temple art, ancient ornamentation, and vintage collections.
- The collection features distinct styles for different kingdoms and characters, including bold armoring for Ravana.
- The jewelry line has been made available for public purchase on the brand's website with prices starting at ₹1,200.
The upcoming two-part film adaptation of the epic Ramayana features a massive lineup of actors including Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash, and Rakul Preet Singh. To build an immersive cinematic world, the production utilized custom-crafted ornamentation designed to reflect specific characters and kingdoms.
Tribe Amrapali served as the official jewelry partner for the project, creating thousands of items under the creative direction of Tarang Arora. The Jaipur-based design team spent close to two years utilizing traditional craftsmanship, temple art, and historic references from sources like Raja Ravi Varma's paintings and a private museum collection.
The resulting catalog ranges from delicate headpieces and layered necklaces to heavy, armor-like chest plates and cuffs intended for Ravana. Traditional techniques such as repoussé, jadau, and chitai were employed to give the gold and gold-plated accessories an authentic, vintage appearance.
Because the central characters spend a large portion of the narrative in exile, the ornamentation had to balance cinematic grandeur with narrative context. A selection of the film-inspired items has now been released for commercial purchase, bringing the movie's traditional design vocabulary directly to consumers.
Why It Matters
This cinematic adaptation brings traditional Indian craftsmanship, heritage ornamentation, and cultural epics to an international audience, highlighted by a star-studded world premiere at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.
