Rajasthan places IPS officer Prashakha Mathur on APO as ACB probes IAS husband’s villa deals
TL;DR
- IPS officer Prashakha Mathur put on Awaiting Posting Order
- IAS officer Shikhar Agrawal also placed on APO pending inquiry
- Anti‑Corruption Bureau investigating alleged below‑market villa purchases for the couple
- Probe focuses on alleged misuse of official position to benefit Goyal Fashions
- Formal FIR may be filed if preliminary findings are confirmed
The Rajasthan government has placed IPS officer Prashakha Mathur on an Awaiting Posting Order (APO) following the Anti‑Corruption Bureau's (ACB) opening of a preliminary inquiry into alleged misconduct by her husband, senior IAS officer Shikhar Agrawal.
Agrawal, who was serving as additional chief secretary for industries, was also placed on APO as the ACB investigates claims that the couple bought dozens of villas from Goyal Fashions Pvt Ltd in Udaipur and Alwar at prices far below market value in exchange for official favors.
The ACB’s preliminary findings suggest the favors may have included relaxed construction approvals and a special concessional financial package, which the bureau says caused substantial losses to the state exchequer.
If the inquiry substantiates the allegations, a formal FIR could be registered against Agrawal, and Mathur could be called for questioning, though no formal inquiry against her has been announced yet.
Agrawal is currently abroad, and officials indicated he could be questioned upon his return as the investigation proceeds.
Why It Matters
The case highlights Rajasthan's enforcement of its anti‑corruption stance, affecting senior civil servants whose decisions can impact public resources. For Indian expatriates in North America, the outcome may influence perceptions of governance and accountability in India, while also underscoring the importance of transparent administration in bilateral engagements on investment and tourism.
