Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that eligible families enrolled under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will receive a free LPG cylinder refill for the upcoming Diwali and Holi festivals. The announcement was made during an event where refill subsidies were distributed to more than 1.89 crore beneficiaries across the state.
To support this initiative, the state government has allocated ₹1,500 crore for subsidy distribution. During the program, the Chief Minister broke down domestic cylinder pricing, noting that the central government provides a subsidy of ₹335 toward the total cost of ₹983.45.
Contrasting current policies with past administrations, Adityanath stated that obtaining gas connections was previously difficult under the Congress government. He described the provision of free connections to poor families as an example of good governance.
Additionally, the Chief Minister discussed the upcoming Deepotsav in Ayodhya, scheduled for November 7, describing it as an expression of social unity. He criticized historical political practices based on caste divisions and credited the state government with turning Ayodhya's heritage into an inclusive festival since 2017.
Why It Matters
This initiative directly impacts millions of low-income households in India's most populous state by easing financial burdens during major festivals, reflecting local welfare policies and state-level subsidy distributions under federal schemes.
