Kimi Antonelli Claims Youngest Formula 1 Championship in Mexico

Kimi Antonelli made Formula 1 history on Sunday by securing his first world championship at 20 years and 68 days old. The Mercedes driver finished third at the Mexico City Grand Prix, crossing the line behind race winner Max Verstappen and runner-up Lewis Hamilton.

The Italian driver eclipsed the previous record set by Sebastian Vettel in 2010 by more than three years. Antonelli also became the first Italian world champion in 73 years, following Alberto Ascari's 1953 title.

Verstappen claimed victory in the Mexican capital by holding off Hamilton following a race restart. The event had been temporarily stopped with a red flag around Lap 45 after Valtteri Bottas crashed into the wall.

Antonelli reached 380 points in the standings with four races left in the season, holding an unassailable lead. Mercedes continues to lead the constructors' championship with 630 points.
