R Praggnanandhaa Secures Over Rs 1 Crore at Clutch Chess Tournament

Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa earned USD 109,000, or roughly Rs 1.04 crore, after placing second at the Clutch Chess: Champions Showdown in the United States. Despite the significant financial reward, the player expressed slight disappointment at narrowly missing the top spot.

The tournament title went to Javokhir Sindarov of Uzbekistan, who finished with 20.5 points. Praggnanandhaa secured 19 points, followed by Fabiano Caruana with 16.5 points and Hikaru Nakamura with 12 points.

Sindarov secured the win through a strong performance on the final day, overcoming a 2.5-point deficit. Praggnanandhaa's title hopes concluded after a draw against Caruana and a loss in the final round.

The prize money for the event was determined by base rewards and performance bonuses for daily victories. Sindarov, as the champion, also claimed a special jackpot funded by accumulated draws.
