Karnataka Milk Federation Announces Price Hike for Milk and Curd
TL;DR
- The cost of regular toned milk will rise by ₹8 per litre starting November 1.
- Curd prices are set to increase by ₹14 per litre.
- The revision aims to support dairy farmers facing drought conditions and high cattle maintenance costs.
- Officials noted that milk prices in Karnataka remain lower than in neighboring states.
The Karnataka Milk Federation has updated its rate card for milk and curd, with the new pricing structure taking effect on November 1. Regular toned milk contained in blue packets will cost ₹8 more per litre, moving from ₹46 to ₹54.
Other dairy varieties face steeper increases, with homogenised cow milk rising by ₹8 and special toned milk along with Shubham milk going up by ₹12 per litre. Curd prices have also increased significantly, with a 500-gram pouch moving from ₹28 to ₹36 and a one-kilogram pouch rising from ₹54 to ₹68.
According to the federation, the adjustment was necessary to protect the interests of milk-producing farmers and align with competing brand prices. Officials explained that drought-like conditions, water scarcity, and a lack of green fodder have increased the cost of cattle maintenance.
State leaders defended the adjustment as an unavoidable step to prevent farmers from supplying milk to other dairies. The revision is intended to provide financial relief to producers dealing with declining milk yields and rising operational expenses.
Why It Matters
This price revision directly impacts household budgets and consumers purchasing Nandini dairy products in Karnataka, while addressing financial pressures on nearly 2.68 million dairy farmer members who are dealing with water and fodder shortages.
