Karwa Chauth 2026 Falls on October 29, Moonrise Set for Evening in Delhi

Karwa Chauth, the festival marked by fasting and prayers for a spouse's wellbeing, will be observed on Thursday, October 29, 2026, according to reports. Moonrise in Delhi is expected at around 8:17 pm that evening, though exact puja and moonrise timings differ from city to city.

Some calendars list the festival a day earlier, on October 28, so people have been advised to verify timings against their local panchang before beginning preparations.

The day traditionally begins before sunrise with sargi, a meal prepared by the mother-in-law for the woman observing the fast. The hours that follow typically include application of henna, exchange of new bangles, and a full day without food or water.

As evening approaches, the focus shifts to the thali, the karwa vessel, and the sieve used during the ritual, with families gathering to wait for the moon to appear. Breaking the fast after moonrise, accompanied by prayers, marks the emotional high point of the observance.

Throughout the day, people exchange greetings and messages with spouses, mothers-in-law, elders, friends and sisters, reflecting the festival's emphasis on gratitude, devotion and family ties.
