Radico Khaitan Establishes Scottish Subsidiary to Bolster Malt Whisky Supply
TL;DR
- Radico Khaitan has formed a new subsidiary in Scotland to manage malt spirit sourcing and maturation.
- The company aims to diversify its supply chain following recent logistics disruptions in West Asia.
- Rampur single malt will continue to be produced exclusively in India.
- The firm is also expanding its premium portfolio, including a planned entry into the tequila market.
Bengaluru-based Radico Khaitan Ltd. has launched a Scotland-based subsidiary to manage the distillation, trading, and maturation of malt whisky. Managing Director Abhishek Khaitan noted that the initiative is intended to secure the company's supply of mature malt spirit.
Despite the new presence in Scotland, the company confirmed that its Rampur single malt whisky will remain tied to its Indian roots. Production and maturation for this brand will continue to take place in the Himalayan foothills.
The expansion is part of a broader strategy to diversify export markets following recent supply chain challenges in the Gulf and West Asia. The company currently exports to over 100 countries, with a focus on growth in Africa and the Asia-Pacific region.
In addition to whisky, the company is diversifying its premium offerings through a partnership with Shah Rukh Khan and Nikhil Kamath. This venture is preparing to launch a tequila product that will be bottled in Mexico.
Domestically, the company is prioritizing growth in South India, specifically targeting premium retail and hospitality channels. Radico Khaitan reported strong financial performance in the most recent fiscal year, with its premium portfolio accounting for a significant portion of total sales.
Why It Matters
This move highlights the strategic efforts of Indian spirits manufacturers to secure global supply chains and reduce risks associated with regional market concentration. For international consumers and stakeholders, it underscores the growing global footprint of Indian brands and their commitment to maintaining domestic production standards while leveraging international expertise.
