South Coast Railway Train Services Disrupted Due to Flooded Bridge
TL;DR
- Heavy water flow over Bridge No. 1052 disrupted the Ichchapuram–Jhadupudi section.
- Cancellations, diversions, and rescheduling impacted corridors like Howrah and Bengaluru.
- Authorities deployed a special train, food, drinking water, and help desks for passengers.
- Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and officials are monitoring the restoration work.
Rail traffic on the Ichchapuram–Jhadupudi section within the Visakhapatnam division of the South Coast Railway has faced severe disruptions. Floodwaters at Bridge No. 1052 surpassed the danger mark, affecting regional and long-distance travel across major corridors linked to cities such as Howrah, Bengaluru, Chennai, Bhubaneswar, and Secunderabad.
In response to the travel crisis, the railway administration launched emergency measures to assist stranded commuters. Officials arranged an unscheduled special train between Visakhapatnam and Palasa while distributing food and drinking water at major stations. Dedicated help desks were also set up at key locations including Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Ichchapuram.
Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw and South Coast Railway General Manager Sandeep Mathur are supervising the emergency response and restoration efforts. Senior management is coordinating with the state government to repair the tracks safely and restore normal transit schedules.
Numerous prominent services, including the Bhubaneswar–Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat Express and the Howrah–Secunderabad Falaknuma Express, were cancelled for October 29 and 30, with advance cancellations stretching to November 1. Other long-distance services, such as the Coromandel Express, have been heavily diverted through alternative chord lines, and passengers have been advised to check updated schedules before traveling.
